Serdal Adalı comments on Gedson Fernandes transfer rumours
Beşiktaş president Serdal Adalı has denied reports that the club is trying to bring Gedson Fernandes back, insisting that the Portuguese midfielder is not part of the team’s current transfer plans.
Fernandes had been linked with a possible return to Türkiye, with reports suggesting that both Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor were interested in signing him. Adalı rejected the claims directly, saying Beşiktaş had no intention of pursuing the player.
“Gedson is not on our agenda,” Adalı said. He added that he believed Beşiktaş was being mentioned in connection with the midfielder to influence the transfer negotiations or increase his price.
The president also outlined the positions the club is considering strengthening. According to Adalı, the head coach expects to manage with the existing options at centre-back during the summer transfer window. The club is instead looking at adding a player who could provide cover for Salih and Orkun.
Adalı also made clear that Beşiktaş is not planning to sell any of its players. He said the squad had been assembled with the aim of challenging for the championship and that the club’s focus was on winning the title.
“Whatever the circumstances, we built this team to become champions,” he said. “We do not need another star this year. Our only concern is winning the championship, and we will pursue that goal until the end. No one at Beşiktaş is for sale. Until we become champions, the club will not consider incoming offers, and nobody is leaving.”
His comments appear intended to put an end to speculation over both Fernandes and potential departures from the current squad. They also underline the club’s stated preference for keeping its existing core together rather than making a high-profile signing simply because one is being discussed in the media.
For supporters, the key point is that a reported link does not amount to a transfer offer or an active negotiation. Adalı’s statement is the clearest indication so far that Beşiktaş is not pursuing Fernandes, although transfer plans can change if the club’s needs or circumstances shift.
The search for a player to support Salih and Orkun may therefore be more relevant to Beşiktaş’s immediate recruitment strategy than the Fernandes rumours. A suitable backup could give the coaching staff greater flexibility across a long season, particularly if injuries, suspensions or a demanding fixture schedule limit the availability of regular starters.
Adalı’s comments about the defence were more measured. He said the coach expected to get through the summer with the current centre-back options, rather than confirming that the club would definitely make no defensive additions. That leaves room for the coaching staff and management to reassess the position if circumstances require it.
The president’s refusal to entertain offers is also a statement of intent rather than a guarantee that no player could ever leave. For now, however, Beşiktaş’s public position is that the squad is being retained for a title challenge, and that Fernandes is not among the club’s planned targets.
The transfer story is therefore straightforward: despite reports connecting Fernandes with a return to Türkiye and interest from Beşiktaş, Adalı has denied that the midfielder is on the club’s agenda. The club says it is focused on strengthening selected areas, protecting its current squad and pursuing the championship.
