Why Did Amed Lose to Kocaelispor?
Amed Sportif Faaliyetler suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Kocaelispor in the second week of the Trendyol Süper Lig. Head coach Besnik Hasi admitted that his team made a poor start and failed to match Kocaelispor’s intensity during the opening stages of the match.
Speaking after the final whistle at Kocaeli Stadium, Hasi congratulated the hosts on their victory but emphasized that Amed were unable to compete at the required level during the first 25 minutes.
“Kocaelispor wanted it more at the beginning,” Hasi said. “They were better in the duels, they ran more and showed greater desire to have the ball. We were not really in the game during that period.”
Amed struggled from the opening whistle
The main reason behind Amed’s defeat was their slow and passive start. Kocaelispor immediately used the support of the home crowd to put pressure on their opponents, while Amed had difficulty building attacks from the back.
Hasi also pointed to the poor condition of the pitch, which made controlled passing more difficult. Nevertheless, he did not use the surface as an excuse. According to the coach, his players were aware that Kocaelispor would begin aggressively, but simple mistakes under pressure made the opening phase even harder.
Amed repeatedly lost possession in dangerous areas and struggled to win second balls. Kocaelispor, by contrast, played with greater energy and made better use of its physical strength. This difference in intensity allowed the home side to establish an early advantage and dictate the rhythm of the match.
The visitors improved after the 25th minute
Amed gradually recovered after the first quarter of an hour and began to control the ball more effectively. The visitors became more organized in midfield and managed to push Kocaelispor deeper toward its own penalty area.
Hasi believed that his team deserved to score during this improved period. He referred to an attack created by Ermal, in which Gift arrived too late to finish the move. Although the opportunity did not produce a goal, it showed that Amed were beginning to find spaces in the Kocaelispor defense.
“We took control of the game after the 25th minute,” Hasi explained. “We went forward and created some situations, but we did not produce enough clear chances. We deserved to score, yet we could not turn that pressure into a goal.”
Missed chance became a turning point
The clearest opportunity came in the second half through Sor. The forward carried the ball well and completed most of the difficult work, but Hasi felt that a direct shot may have been a better option than attempting to pass the ball across the area.
That moment was particularly important because Kocaelispor had started to retreat and defend more deeply. Amed were pushing for a way back into the contest, and a goal at that stage could have changed the entire balance of the match.
Instead, the chance disappeared, and Amed were unable to convert their territorial superiority into a result. The missed opportunity also highlighted one of the visitors’ biggest problems: they reached promising positions but lacked precision and decisiveness in the final third.
Why Amed could not make a comeback
Although Amed were more competitive in the second half, their attack remained too predictable. The team often moved the ball forward without enough speed, allowing Kocaelispor to regroup behind the ball.
The absence of a decisive final pass and a clinical finish limited Amed’s comeback hopes. Possession alone was not enough to break down the home defense. The visitors needed quicker combinations, more movement away from the ball and greater composure inside the penalty area.
Kocaelispor also benefited from the psychological advantage created by its strong beginning. Once the hosts secured control of the scoreline, they could defend more compactly and wait for counterattacking opportunities.
Hasi says the squad is not complete
Another factor behind Amed’s difficulties is that the squad has not yet reached its final form. Hasi stated that the team still needs several additions before it can compete at its highest level.
“I am satisfied with the players, but we need some reinforcements to complete the squad,” the coach said. “Physically, we must improve. When we reach a better level in that area, we will also become much stronger with the ball.”
His comments suggest that Amed are still adapting to the demands of the season. New players may be needed to increase competition for places, add physical strength and provide more options in attack.
Physical preparation remains a priority
The match also exposed a difference in physical readiness. Kocaelispor appeared sharper in challenges and more aggressive during transitions, while Amed needed time to settle into the contest.
Improving fitness will be essential, particularly because Amed must maintain their intensity over 90 minutes. A team that starts slowly can quickly fall behind against opponents capable of applying pressure from the opening whistle.
Hasi will therefore be expected to focus on pressing resistance, defensive concentration and rapid ball circulation during training. These areas will be especially important in the next match against Trabzonspor.
What Amed must improve before the Trabzonspor match
The defeat provides several clear lessons. First, Amed must enter the match with greater concentration and aggression. A slow start away from home can create a deficit that is difficult to overcome.
Second, the team needs to reduce unnecessary turnovers in its own half. Losing the ball while attempting to build attacks gave Kocaelispor opportunities to maintain pressure and prevented Amed from establishing a stable rhythm.
Finally, the visitors must be more efficient near goal. Creating one or two promising attacks is not enough at this level. The team must turn those moments into shots, goals and sustained pressure.
A defeat with lessons for the season
The 2-0 scoreline reflects Kocaelispor’s superior opening and Amed’s failure to capitalize on their improved second-half performance. Hasi did not hide his disappointment, but he also stressed that the players showed determination after the difficult start.
Amed now have the opportunity to respond quickly. The upcoming Trabzonspor fixture will test whether the team can correct its weaknesses, improve its physical condition and maintain concentration from the first minute.
For Hasi, the priority is clear: strengthen the squad, raise the team’s fitness level and ensure that Amed’s periods of control lead to genuine scoring opportunities. Only then can the side turn promising spells of football into points.
