A man injured in a lead-melting accident in Erzincan has died in hospital, while in a separate development Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan was detained as part of an extortion investigation, authorities reported.
According to initial information, 43-year-old Muhammet A., who lived on the first floor of an apartment building on 1206th Street in the Mimarsinan neighborhood of Erzincan, was attempting to melt lead on a stove at home when a sudden explosion occurred. The blast seriously injured him and caused panic in the area.
Residents in the building and nearby heard a loud noise and immediately alerted the emergency hotline. Upon notification, disaster management teams, firefighters, medical staff and police units were dispatched to the scene. Security measures were taken around the building, while firefighters checked for any risk of fire or structural damage following the explosion.
Paramedics provided first aid to Muhammet A. at the scene before he was transported by ambulance to Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University Mengücek Gazi Training and Research Hospital. Doctors there initiated emergency treatment and he was taken under intensive care. Despite all medical interventions, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
