Beşiktaş Holds Extraordinary Elective General Assembly
Beşiktaş is holding an extraordinary general assembly to elect a club president and board of directors. The meeting is taking place at Sinan Erdem Sports Hall in Istanbul, with voting scheduled to continue until 5 p.m.
At 10:30 a.m., 426 members had attended the assembly. Lawyer Burak Özmen was elected chair of the meeting’s governing panel, which is responsible for overseeing proceedings.
During the gathering, presidential candidate Serdal Adalı said talks with potential basketball sponsors were ongoing. He described the club as selective in its discussions and said he expected an agreement to be reached soon, bringing the planned financial contribution into the budget.
Assembly agenda
The meeting was called to consider the following items:
1. Opening of the assembly
2. Election of the meeting’s governing panel
3. Moment of silence and the Turkish national anthem
4. Presentation of the presidential candidates’ programmes
5. Election of the president and board of directors
6. Closing of the meeting
The club had announced that the assembly would be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Sinan Erdem Sports Hall, located on Ataköy Boulevard in the Bakırköy district of Istanbul. The notice also stated that an earlier meeting on Sunday, September 27, could not proceed because the required quorum was not reached. A final session was therefore scheduled at the same venue and with the same agenda, without a quorum requirement.
Who can vote
Voting rights are limited to eligible club members. Members who had paid their annual dues, including any applicable late charges, by the end of December 31, 2025, and had completed at least one full year of membership could attend.
The club’s notice also allowed members who had not paid their dues by the December 31 deadline to take part if they paid the overdue amount and penalties no later than ten days before the first date of the extraordinary general assembly, in accordance with Article 15.2 of the club’s statutes.
Members were asked to bring identification. The assembly is not open to guests, and attendance is restricted to those entitled to participate under the club’s rules.
Transport and practical arrangements
To make it easier for members to reach the venue, Beşiktaş arranged shuttle services from several locations. Buses were due to depart from outside Carousel shopping centre in Bakırköy at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Additional departures were planned from the Kartal Yuvası store stop in Akaretler, Beşiktaş, at 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. A continuous round-trip shuttle service was also scheduled between the Ataköy Marmaray station exit, the Şirinevler Metrobus stop on the Ataköy-bound side, and the area outside Kültür College, operating from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
After the meeting, final services were to run toward the Şirinevler Metrobus stop and Ataköy Marmaray station.
What the election means for the club
The vote will determine who leads Beşiktaş and sets the direction of its administration. The incoming president and board will be responsible for managing the club’s sporting and financial priorities, including its work to secure sponsorship income.
For members, the presentations by the presidential candidates provide an opportunity to compare their plans before casting a ballot. The assembly’s agenda places those presentations before the election itself, giving members a formal chance to hear each programme.
The sponsor update offered by Adalı points to the importance of commercial partnerships as the club plans its budget. No agreement or financial figure was announced during the remarks; he said only that negotiations were continuing and that the club hoped to conclude them in the near future.
Voting remains open until 5 p.m. The assembly’s decisions, including the election result, will establish the club’s leadership for the next stage of its administration.
