“I Did Not Expect to See Beşiktaş Play This Poorly”

Serhat Akın has criticized Beşiktaş after the team produced one of its weakest performances of the season against Amedspor. Speaking on his own YouTube channel, Akın evaluated the Black-and-White side’s overall display, Vincenzo Italiano’s tactical decisions and Vaclav Cerny’s inconsistent contribution.

Akın admitted that the match was particularly surprising because he had previously been among the strongest supporters of both Beşiktaş and head coach Italiano. In his view, the team’s problems were not limited to a few individual mistakes. The entire side struggled to maintain intensity, create danger and establish control in key areas of the pitch.

“I watched a Beşiktaş team that was either missing too many important players or played extremely badly when things went wrong. I honestly did not expect to see Beşiktaş perform at this level during the season. I have been one of the people who praised Beşiktaş and Italiano the most,” Akın said.

Italiano’s Changes Failed to Transform the Match

The commentator also assessed Italiano’s response from the sidelines. According to Akın, the Italian coach tried several tactical adjustments throughout the game, but none of them produced the desired effect. Substitutions and positional changes failed to give Beşiktaş the energy or attacking clarity it needed.

“Italiano tried everything on the pitch once again. However, neither the players who came on nor those who were taken off made a meaningful difference. Apart from Miretti, there was not a single player who brought even a small amount of movement to the game,” he stated.

This criticism highlights a wider problem for Beşiktaş: the team appeared unable to react when its initial plan stopped working. Rather than increasing pressure on Amedspor, the Black-and-White players became increasingly predictable. Their passing slowed down, their attacks lost rhythm and the distance between the lines grew.

Cerny’s Inconsistency Draws Attention

Akın reserved some of his strongest remarks for Vaclav Cerny. The Czech winger has received praise for his technical ability and attacking potential, but his performances have not always been consistent. While he has produced influential displays in certain fixtures, he can also disappear from the game for long periods.

“You praise Cerny one week. I personally like him and believe he is a very good footballer. But after this match, he really needs to look at his own performance,” Akın said.

He added that Cerny’s contribution can sometimes fall dramatically when he fails to impose himself early in the match. “When Cerny does not get into the game, he really does not get into it at all,” Akın concluded.

Beşiktaş Must Find a Faster Response

The result and performance against Amedspor may force Italiano to reconsider several aspects of his approach. Beşiktaş appeared short of ideas in possession and struggled to turn territorial pressure into clear scoring opportunities. The team also lacked the aggression required to win second balls and sustain attacks.

One of the immediate priorities should be improving the connection between midfield and attack. When the midfield cannot move the ball forward quickly, the forwards become isolated and the wingers are forced to attempt individual actions. This makes the team easier to defend against and places excessive responsibility on a small number of players.

The match also raised questions about squad depth. Injuries, suspensions or fatigue can weaken any team, but Beşiktaş must have reliable alternatives capable of maintaining the same tactical structure. If substitutes cannot contribute effectively, the coaching staff will have limited options during difficult matches.

For Cerny, the challenge is to become more dependable from week to week. His technical quality is not in question, yet talent alone is insufficient at a club competing under constant pressure. He must remain involved even when he is not scoring or assisting by pressing, making intelligent runs and helping the team retain possession.

Italiano, meanwhile, will need to ensure that his tactical flexibility does not become indecision. Changing formations and personnel can be valuable, but every adjustment must serve a clear purpose. Beşiktaş need to understand how they want to attack, how they will respond after losing the ball and which players are responsible for creating chances.

A poor performance does not define an entire season, but it can expose weaknesses that cannot be ignored. Beşiktaş now face the task of recovering both their confidence and their playing identity. A stronger reaction in the next fixture would be the clearest answer to the concerns raised after the Amedspor match.
