Security Guard Injured After Falling Into Pit While Fleeing Barking Dog in Bursa
A security guard in Bursa’s Mudanya district was injured after falling into a pit while trying to escape from a dog that suddenly began barking behind him. The 46-year-old man suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The incident occurred in the Güzelyalı Siteler neighborhood during a routine patrol around a private residential complex. The guard, identified by the initials F.A., was walking through the area when a dog approached from behind and began barking loudly.
Alarmed by the unexpected noise, F.A. started running. While attempting to move away from the animal, he lost his footing near the edge of the pavement and fell into an uncovered pit. During the fall, he struck his head hard against the ground.
People who witnessed the incident reported what had happened to the emergency services. Medical teams were dispatched to the scene and provided the injured guard with first aid before transporting him by ambulance to Mudanya State Hospital.
The guard remained under medical supervision after being admitted. Details about the severity of his injuries were not immediately disclosed, although the head impact required hospital treatment.
Police officers also arrived at the location and began examining the circumstances surrounding the accident. Their initial investigation focused on the condition and location of the pit, as well as the events that led to the guard’s fall.
The incident highlights the risks that can arise when pedestrians react suddenly to unexpected situations. A person attempting to run away may fail to notice holes, uneven pavement, construction areas or other hazards along the route.
Unprotected pits near sidewalks can pose a serious danger, particularly in residential areas where security personnel, residents and pedestrians regularly pass. Such openings should be clearly marked, secured with barriers and repaired as quickly as possible.
The presence of dogs can also create additional safety concerns if animals move freely around streets or housing complexes. Sudden barking or aggressive behavior may cause panic, especially when a person is surprised from behind.
Experts generally recommend avoiding sudden movements when confronted by a barking dog. Instead of running, a person should remain calm, avoid direct eye contact and slowly move away if it is safe to do so. However, in this case, the guard reacted instinctively and fell before he could assess the surrounding area.
Following the accident, local officials and property managers may be expected to review safety conditions around the site. Special attention could be given to pavement maintenance, lighting and the control of animals within the complex.
The police investigation into the incident is continuing. Further information about the guard’s health and whether any responsibility will be assigned for the hazardous pit may be released after the assessment is completed.
