Father and Son Dispute Ends in Death in Malatya’s Kale District
A violent family dispute in Malatya’s Kale district ended with the death of 62-year-old Mithat Ekici. Ekici was allegedly attacked with a knife by his son, Taner Ekici, and died in hospital despite all medical efforts. The suspect was detained by gendarmerie officers along with the alleged weapon.
The incident took place in the evening in Kaleköy neighborhood. According to the initial information, an argument broke out between Mithat Ekici and his son Taner for a reason that has not yet been established. As the dispute escalated, Taner Ekici reportedly grabbed a knife and attacked his father several times.
Mithat Ekici was seriously injured during the assault and collapsed inside the house. Neighbors who heard the sounds coming from the residence notified the authorities. Following the report, gendarmerie and emergency medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
Medical personnel provided first aid before transferring the injured man to Kale District State Hospital. However, Mithat Ekici could not be saved despite the doctors’ interventions and died later that night.
Gendarmerie teams arrested Taner Ekici at the scene. The suspect was reportedly taken into custody together with the knife believed to have been used in the attack. Authorities began a judicial investigation to clarify how the dispute started and determine the full circumstances surrounding the death.
The victim, who worked as a döner chef, was taken to the morgue of the Malatya Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy. The examination is expected to help establish the precise cause of death and provide additional evidence for the investigation.
The motive behind the confrontation remains unclear. Investigators are expected to question witnesses, examine the crime scene and evaluate forensic findings as part of the legal process. The suspect’s statement will also be taken before prosecutors decide on the next steps.
Incidents involving violence between close family members often develop rapidly after long-standing tensions, personal disputes or emotional confrontations. Nevertheless, the exact reason for this tragedy has not been officially disclosed, and claims about the motive should not be treated as confirmed until the investigation is completed.
The involvement of neighbors was crucial in ensuring that emergency services were called quickly. Hearing unusual noises or signs of a physical confrontation can be an indication of immediate danger. In such situations, people should avoid entering the residence themselves and contact emergency services without delay.
Officials will determine whether there were previous complaints, threats or disputes between the father and son. Any earlier incidents could be important in understanding the background of the case, although only verified information can be included in the judicial record.
The investigation is continuing under the supervision of the relevant authorities. Further details about possible legal proceedings, the suspect’s detention status and the funeral arrangements are expected to emerge once official procedures are completed.
