Beşiktaş Building the Profile of an Unforgiving Team
A commanding victory over Erzurumspor was exactly the kind of result Beşiktaş should expect against a modest opponent. Yet the scoreline alone does not explain why the performance was so encouraging. The most important aspect was the team’s attitude throughout the entire match: Beşiktaş played with determination, discipline and a clear desire to keep control until the final whistle.
The black-and-white side maintained a high tempo, applied consistent pressure and moved the ball with increasing fluency. Its attacking structure was not limited to one predictable pattern. Beşiktaş created opportunities through the centre, used the wings effectively and benefited from the constant involvement of its wing-backs. Their positioning gave the team width in possession and added another layer to attacks around the penalty area.
Vincenzo Italiano’s influence is becoming more visible with every match. Beşiktaş now appears increasingly comfortable both when it has the ball and when it must defend without it. In these two phases, the team is currently producing one of the most convincing performances in the league. The players understand when to accelerate, when to circulate possession and when to press aggressively after losing the ball.
Midfield Balance Gives Beşiktaş Control
Orkun Kökçü, Junior Olaitan and Salih Özcan have established a highly functional partnership in midfield. Their roles complement one another, while their positioning allows Beşiktaş to occupy the pitch in a remarkably balanced way. The distances between the lines remain compact, and this makes it difficult for opponents to find space between midfield and defence.
Kökçü’s ability to make quick decisions is especially important. He releases the ball rapidly, scans the field before receiving it and generally chooses the forward option whenever it is available. That combination of speed and intelligence helps Beşiktaş move from defence to attack without losing momentum.
Olaitan, meanwhile, continues to mature. His energy was already a major asset, but he is now adding greater accuracy and variety to his passing. As his confidence grows, he is becoming more influential in both the construction of attacks and the team’s pressing game.
Salih Özcan once again demonstrated how a defensive midfielder should operate. He protected the back four, anticipated danger, challenged efficiently and supported the first phase of build-up. His contribution is not always spectacular, but it gives the team stability and allows the more creative players to move forward with greater freedom.
Wing-Backs Fulfilling Italiano’s Demands
Amir Murillo and Kassoum Ouattara performed the wing-back duties exactly as Italiano expects. They were effective not only when staying wide along the touchline but also when moving into inside channels. This flexibility created uncertainty for Erzurumspor’s defensive line and opened passing lanes for Beşiktaş’s midfielders.
Their contribution also helped maintain the team’s pressure after losing possession. Because both players were prepared to advance quickly and recover their positions with discipline, Beşiktaş could attack with numbers without completely exposing its defensive structure.
Emmanuel Agbadou and Emirhan Topçu also delivered a composed performance. Their understanding at centre-back was clear, and neither player made unnecessary mistakes. They defended with concentration, dealt with dangerous situations calmly and helped the team retain its territorial advantage.
Trossard Emerges as the Main Attacking Influence
Leandro Trossard was arguably the outstanding player on the pitch. He scored his first goal for Beşiktaş, played a major role in organizing attacks and repeatedly found intelligent positions between the lines. One of his goals was controversially disallowed, but the decision did little to diminish the quality of his overall display.
Trossard’s technical ability and football intelligence stood out throughout the match. He did more than wait for chances in the final third; he helped create them. He dropped into midfield to connect passes, supported defensive work and used his movement to pull defenders away from their positions. His performance was precisely the type that can energize supporters and give the team an additional creative dimension.
Vaclav Cerny was also dangerous. He produced an assist and scored a goal that was ruled out, while creating two further opportunities from open play. His direct style, willingness to attack space and ability to deliver from wide areas remain valuable weapons for Beşiktaş.
Depth Becomes Important Without Vlahovic
Another positive element was the team’s ability to win convincingly despite Dusan Vlahovic’s absence. A strong squad cannot depend on one forward or one particular attacking formula. Beşiktaş showed that it can generate goals through different players and maintain its intensity even when a key option is unavailable.
The recent matches against Çorum and Erzurumspor underline this progress. In both games, Beşiktaş combined hunger, athletic intensity and technical quality. Against opponents that defend deep, such qualities are essential because patience alone is not enough. The team must move the ball quickly, vary its attacks and react immediately when possession changes hands.
There are also signs that Italiano has successfully strengthened the collective mentality. Players appear willing to work for one another, cover space and continue attacking even after establishing a comfortable lead. That mentality is what separates a merely talented side from a team capable of controlling matches consistently.
The next challenge will be maintaining this standard against stronger opponents. Erzurumspor offered limited resistance, so Beşiktaş will need to prove that its pressing structure and positional discipline can survive under greater pressure. The midfield trio, the full contribution of the wing-backs and the defensive coordination of the centre-backs will be tested more severely in those fixtures.
Even so, the current signs are highly promising. Beşiktaş has begun to look more complete, more organized and increasingly ruthless in front of goal. If it preserves the same concentration and intensity, home matches against newly promoted or less experienced teams could become a reliable source of points.
The most encouraging change is that the team no longer appears to rely solely on individual brilliance. Its attacking movements are coordinated, its defensive reactions are quicker and its players seem to understand their responsibilities. That tactical clarity allows talent to have a greater impact.
Beşiktaş is still developing, but the foundation is becoming stronger every week. The combination of Italiano’s tactical approach, a balanced midfield, active wing-backs and creative attackers has produced a side capable of dominating possession while also defending aggressively. If this progress continues, the black-and-white team may evolve into one of the league’s most uncompromising and difficult opponents.
