Black Eagles Fly Into the UEFA Europa League
Beşiktaş secured its place in the UEFA Europa League despite losing 1-0 away to Lithuania’s Kauno Žalgiris. The black-and-white side had built a three-goal advantage in the first leg at Mithatpaşa, and that result proved decisive as the team advanced with a 3-1 aggregate score.
The qualification brings relief after a difficult period for the Black Eagles. Beşiktaş had recently suffered a controversial defeat against Alanyaspor in the Turkish Super League, and the team’s performance in Lithuania once again exposed several problems that cannot be ignored despite the successful outcome.
A Lackluster Performance in Lithuania
Beşiktaş played as if the match were a routine training session. The team dominated possession for long stretches but lacked intensity, creativity and urgency in the final third. However, advancing does not erase the concerns revealed by the match. European competition becomes increasingly demanding, and stronger opponents will punish defensive mistakes and passive attacking football more severely. Beşiktaş must improve its concentration, tempo and chance creation before facing higher-quality teams.
The qualification also provides an opportunity to rebuild confidence. What Beşiktaş Must Improve
