Three People Lost Their Lives in a Serious Crash on the Gaziantep-Nizip Road
A devastating traffic accident occurred early in the morning on the Gaziantep-Nizip D-400 highway, leaving three people dead and three others injured, including two children.
The crash took place at approximately 6 a.m. near the 20th kilometer of the highway. According to the initial investigation, two passenger cars collided for reasons that have not yet been established. One vehicle was reportedly driven by 38-year-old Mehmet K., while the second car was under the control of 51-year-old Doğan Yanardağ.
Emergency services were dispatched after a call was placed to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Police officers, gendarmerie units, firefighters and medical teams arrived at the scene to respond to the wreckage and assist those trapped or injured inside the vehicles.
Mertcan Taşdemir, 25, who was traveling as a passenger in one of the cars, was found dead at the crash site. Rescue teams removed the injured from the vehicles and transferred them to nearby hospitals after providing initial treatment at the scene.
The injured included drivers Doğan Yanardağ and Mehmet K., as well as Hacı Zer, 51, who was in the same vehicle as Yanardağ. Two children, 11-year-old Havin K. and 9-year-old Sara K., were also injured in the collision.
Despite all medical efforts, Yanardağ and Zer died in hospital because of the severity of their injuries. Their deaths raised the number of fatalities to three. The other injured passengers remained under medical care, and their condition was being monitored by doctors.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Gaziantep Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy procedures. Relatives and local residents were informed of the tragedy as officials continued to document the scene and determine the exact circumstances of the collision.
The D-400 highway is an important route connecting Gaziantep with Nizip and carries a significant volume of traffic throughout the day. Early-morning crashes on major roads can be particularly dangerous because poor visibility, fatigue and reduced reaction times may increase the risk of a collision.
Investigators are expected to examine the positions of the vehicles, tire marks, road conditions and possible traffic-camera footage. Technical inspections may also be conducted to determine whether mechanical failure, excessive speed or a loss of control contributed to the accident.
Authorities will also assess whether weather, lighting and driver behavior played a role. The precise cause of the crash has not yet been officially announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
